The Dragonfly That Changed
My Life
I never set out to start a business. In fact, if someone had told me a few years ago that I would one day be running a holistic healing business, I probably would have laughed and told them they had the wrong person!
My journey truly began with my mum.
During her chemotherapy, she received Reiki. I watched first-hand the comfort and profound calm it brought her during one of the most difficult times of her life. It gave her a moments peace when everything else felt overwhelming, and those moments stayed with me forever.
When my mum passed away, I completely lost myself. I wasn’t just grieving her loss; I was trying to figure out who I was without her. My mental health deteriorated, I left my job, I questioned everything, and I felt as though the future I once knew had completely disappeared.
At a time when my mind was constantly racing and I was searching for something to hold onto, Reiki brought me a deep sense of calm. It helped me slow down, reconnect with myself, and begin the gentle process of healing. It felt like the very first step toward finding myself again.
That feeling inspired me to train in Reiki, but taking that leap wasn’t easy. There were many moments where I questioned whether I was making the right decision:
“Is this really what I’m meant to be doing?”
My husband and my dad genuinely thought I had completely lost the plot! (And honestly, I can’t say I blame them!) Walking away from my job, and to start something completely new, all on my own, was a massive leap of faith.
I remember quietly asking my mum one day: “Mum, if this is my path, please show me a dragonfly.”
A few days later, a friend took me to Chatsworth. As we walked through the gift shop, I noticed it was filled with dragonfly items. But in my head I thought, “No Mum… I mean a real one.”
We continued out into the gardens, and suddenly we both stopped in awe.
Dragonflies. Not just one, they were everywhere, dancing around us. Even my friend couldn’t believe what we were seeing. It was a magical moment I will never forget. Right then, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time.
I just knew. And in that moment, The Holistic Dragonfly was born.
Where the Journey Has Led
Fast forward to today, and I still have moments where I have to pinch myself.
In my very first year of business, I was recognised as one of the UK Top 10 Holistic Therapists of the Year and UK Top 10 Wellness Practitioners of the Year 2025. In my second year, I have been shortlisted as a finalist for Best New Business 2026, and I’ve written two e-books on how Self-Reiki can support you at home.
As a mum of two boys, I completely understand how chaotic, exhausting, and busy life can be. That’s why creating this space means so much to me, it’s a sanctuary where you can simply lie back, breathe, and enjoy time dedicated entirely to you, where nobody needs anything from you for an hour or so.
These achievements mean the absolute world to me because I never created this business simply to build a business. For me, it has always been about creating a safe, welcoming space where people feel truly heard, supported, and understood, a place where you can take a well-deserved moment for yourself, especially during the seasons of life that feel the hardest.
Through this path, I’ve met the most incredible people and had the total privilege of supporting clients through their own challenges, healing journeys, and moments of change. (And those who once wondered if I’d lost the plot? My husband and my dad have become two of my biggest supporters!)
This journey started with grief, but it has grown into something filled with purpose, connection, and deep love. I truly believe that sometimes the biggest leaps of faith lead us exactly where we are meant to be.
I don’t know every step of where this path will take me next, but I am so excited for the journey ahead. My dream is to share Reiki with people near and far, reaching anyone who needs a moment of calm, just like it gave me during one of the hardest chapters of my life.
